One bedroom has a double bed and en-suite bathroom (with bath only). The second bedroom has twin beds. The third (small) bedroom has two single beds and is more suitable for children. The second bathroom has a shower. The house also offers a combined kitchen/breakfast room, separate sitting room and a large dining room. There are rare and interesting antique Cape Dutch features to the house, such as built-in wall cupboards with yellow-wood and stinkwood doors, as well as yellow-wood room doors, bamboo reed ceilings, antique light fittings, etc. There are also some classic antique furniture items and prints. There is a large walled garden, with a swimming pool, and and extensive lawned area with views of the mountains surrounding Graaff-Reinet, and a beamed, shaded patio with a table, chairs and braai facilities, under an ancient vine. There is secure off-street parking for 2 cars and a garage. Cross Street 7 - House Self Catering This charming Karoo house is immediately adjacent to Parsonage Street, in the historic centre of Graaff-Reinet. It has been fully restored recently and offers two bedrooms, one with an antique four-poster double bed and one with two single beds, both with en-suite bathrooms (one with a bath and a shower, and the other with a shower). There is a fully-equipped kitchen with an original hearth and chimney feature. A combined dining area and sitting room adjoins the kitchen. This leads to a paved patio area, with a table and chairs, and a small lawned garden, which is shared with the neighbouring garden cottage. The house has some excellent classic antique furniture items and prints. Staying in this property will give you a true feeling of being in old Graaff-Reinet and it is ideally situated for the town’s extensive museums and other facilities. Several good restaurants are within a short walking distance. If required, this unit can be booked together with the adjoining garden cottage, which has one bedroom with a double bed and an en-suite shower bathroom (see “7A Cross Street – garden cottage”, on this website). If such a joint booking is made, an inter-leading door from the kitchen of the garden cottage (which is normally kept locked) can then be opened to provide joint direct access to the patio and dining/sitting area of the main house. It should be noted that access to the adjoining garden cottage referred to above is via a separate side entrance and narrow passage along the side of the house, past the patio and garden areas of the main house. To a limited extent, this can affect the privacy of the outside areas of the main house. This unit has a dedicated adjoining off-street carport, for secure parking, which has a vehicle height limit of 1.8 metres (any vehicle above this height has to be parked at De Kothuize’s main parking area at 4 Parsonage Street, which is a 5-minute walk from the unit).
